A Time For Hope

A New Book From ANM Press Imagine pastoring a church just a short distance from Ground Zero in New York. Imagine having to deal with the sorrow, horror and shock that followed the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Imagine having to help put lives back together again, and trying to make sense of it all. For Dave Epstein this was not something he had to imagine. He lived it. He is the pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church in New York. In the aftermath of 9/11 Pastor Epstein delivered a seres of messages to his congregation offering spiritual and emotional insight and help, and the love of God. This book contains these addresses. Pastor Epstein brings the timeless message of the...

Bills Barbecue, American Indians and ANM

Bill's Barbecue is a Richmond tradition.  Growing up in the suburbs of Virginia's capital you naturally learned to love this typical southern fare.  Delicious minced barbecue sandwiches, homemade limeades, and chocolate pie.  Yummy.  So when the Media Department recently took a field trip to Richmond for day of R & R after a busy season in the offices, I really wanted us to eat at Bill's. Our field trip was wonderful.  We were able to see some of the history and variety of Richmond.  We enjoyed a wonderful time of good fellowship.  And, yes, we got to eat at Bill's Barbecue.  That in itself proved to be an adventure.  Our Director for A-V ministry,...

Reaching the Remaining Unreached

Matthew 24:14 is the vision, heartbeat and ultimate goal of all we do at ANM.  Our passion is to enable our international partners to reach the unreached peoples of the earth.  This has been our focus since we began this mission in 1992.  It still remains the primary aim of this ministry.  To help achieve this very doable goal, we have launched a renewed effort to research, identify, and then help our partners evangelize the Unreached People Groups within their sphere of influence.  We call this endeavor Reaching the Remaining Unreached (RRU).  This effort is spearheaded by two brothers, Jonathan Cortes of Singapore, and one of our Board Members, Mr. Ron Tillett. ...

Medical Ministry Needs a New Vehicle

Would you consider helping Philippine Gospel Association (PGA) purchase a new ministry vehicle for their medical outreaches?  Take a look at project #504 on our project page (for more information) and also go to our Southeast Asia tab and check out PGA's page.  The cost for this new vehicle is $15,000.00 but if many join in to help reach the goal, this ministry team could be using their new ministry vehicle in a short amount of time. The photo posted is one style of vehicle and PGA has decided to purhase a Kia L270  that seats 19 people. UPDATE: The ministry has collected $1458.25 and now they only need 13541.75 to be able to purchase this vehicle....

Bin Laden is Dead... the Aftermath

As you know, President Obama announced last night (Sunday, May 1, 2011) that after ten years of intense effort by U.S. military and intelligence forces Osama bin Laden, the founder and leader of Al Queda, had been killed by U.S. Navy Seals.  While many rejoice at this news, as Christians we must be conscious of the situation this creates for many of our brothers and sisters overseas.  The thought that there might be reprisals in the wake of this event must have occurred to many of you.  Sad to say, this is already the case.  We have already received reports from our ministry partners reporting such reprisals.  This follows other attacks on Christian...

Miracles... And A Robbery

The triumphs and sufferings of a native missionary in India: Dear ANM friends. Greetings to you in the mighty  our savior Jesus name! We had good time of Church service this morning.  We rejoice in the Lord that a new family was added in the family of God.  During the service Demons we cast out in the name of Jesus Christ, many people we set free. While coming back Joy and I were singing praise song Joy was standing in the front of the scooter and Pushpa was sitting in the back.  As we were crossing jungle two young boys came in the motorbike from behind snatched the purse from the Pushpa’s hand in the running scooter.  I did try to follow them but...

Send Help To Japan

We are all aware of the tremendous tragedy that has occurred in Japan.  An earthquake, a tsunami, ongoing nuclear radiation concerns, and mounting problems have left this nation devastated and in great need.  And even though Japan is a highly industrialized and economically powerful nation, no country is completely prepared to adequately deal with a disaster of such magnitude.  The need there is great.  However, although many feel sympathy for the people of Japan, the reality is that donations for the Japanese calamity are far below what is needed or has occurred in the past, such as with the Haiti earthquake last year.  But...

The Story of St. Patrick

He was from a religious background, but not particularly religious himself.  He committed the typical sins of the youths of his time.  He was kidnapped at the age of 16, and sold into slavery.  He was taken to a land far from his home where he was forced to serve a cruel master for six long years.  Then, he made a bold escape.  He managed a journey of 200 miles on foot to the coast of the sea.  And there he found a miraculous deliverance from the land of his servitude!  Does this sound like the plot of a Hollywood film?  Maybe it should be, but it's not.  It is part of the story of Patrick of Ireland. Patrick was a man who...

Coconut Bean Soup

(From Tanzania) In Tanzania, as in other African countries, soups and stews are served in a consistency that is as thick as our stews.  Coconut bean soup would be used as a meatless main dish by increasing the quantities of beans and rice.  However, this recipe has been thinned to a soup consistency with additional water.  Any dried beans, such as black-eyed peas or pea beans, can be used in this soup.  Just cover them with water and cook until tender before combining them with the other ingredients.  Coconut milk and the delicate use of curry give the soup its unusual flavor.   In a 3 quart saucepan saute the following: 1/2 cup onion, chopped finely1/2 cup...

Foul Medamms

Fava bean recipe from Syria       These broad beans are known throughout much of the world.  They are popular from China to Peru.  They are widely used in Egypt, Ethiopia, Greece and Iran.  They are very nutritional, and have significant amounts of key vitamins.  Fava beans have been known since ancient times.  Indeed, in ancient Rome they were used as a means of casting a vote.  They are common in many cultures and cuisines.  They also are associated with many folktales.  In fact, the famous beans of the Jack and the Beanstalk story were probably fava beans.         Ingredients   15 oz. can of fava...

Philippine Gospel Association (PGA) is a medical missions team that ministers to the poor and needy in the islands of the Philippines.  As doctors, their HEARTS are for those that may not have a means of medical attention without their help. More importantly, they share the love of Christ to each patient that attends one of their clinics. Though physical hearts may have medical problems, PGA realizes that knowing Jesus is the "real heart" problem.  PGA is in need of a portable ECG Machine FME 501X to assist them on their medical outreaches. Would you consider making an investment to help purchase this equipment?  If your "heart" is touched by this need, please see project...

Raising Funds Made Fun!

Another idea for meeting a project need: A co-worker of mine shared that her local church gave small piggy banks to the members of the church (this could also be broken down to the children's ministry or just the adults).  Each person takes their pig home and attempts to weekly fill it up in any creative way imaginable.  Every week, on a given day, the pigs are brought to the church and emptied into a larger container.  The class that raises the most money receives a pizza party or some other form of award for their hard work.  The contest can be set for a certain number of weeks and the funds can be given to missions as a church or...

A Native Missionary Looks At Diwali

Diwali is the "festival of lights" that originated with Hinduism but is now celebrated by Hindus, Jains, and Sikhs.  The festival honors several religious events.  It also pays homage to Lakshmi, the consort of the Hindu God Vishnu. This year, 2010, Diwali begins on Friday, November 5.  The festival lasts for five days, and is a national holiday in India. Diwali is a good time to remember that as Christians we honor the true Light of the World--Jesus Christ.  He is the Light that has come to every man, bringing the shining truth of the Gospel and liberating brillance of the message of His sacrificial life and death.  ...

Blankets for the cold, brings warmth to the heart!

A simple blanket!  Many people in the world have one, most people have extras in closets, just in case.  Imagine living in an area of the world where temperatures can become extremely cold and not owning one blanket.  This ministry based in the Northwestern part of India shares the love of Christ in many ways.  One wonderful way is giving a blanket to those in need.  The photo attached shows the joy of members of a leper colony (radiant smiles and laughter).  Phyically they suffer, but this ministry is taking the time to show them love.  If purchasing a blanket is something you would like to do, see project # 241 for more information. ...

Help Colombia Hear

As June is coming to a close, we want to encourage you to continue praying for those native missionaries who are reaching their own peoples in Latin America. But before this month ends, we also want to share with you an opportunity to GIVE. Therefore, we have asked our ANM Warehouse Team to tell us how children, students, and teachers can help those in Columbia hear the Gospel, and they responded as follows:COLUMBIA: In the midst of great persecution, Christ to the Unreached Tribes has been bearing fruit for 29 years.  Their vision is to have 500 churches among the 80 tribes by 2015.  We at Advancing Native Missions want to be a part of this vision as we equip and encourage these dedicated...

In the Face of Rifles

Samuel thought he was going to die for sure. His heart pounded frantically in his chest as he considered what could very well be his last conscious thought. “What about my wife and children?” Children. It was children who had ambushed him. These boys were as young as thirteen years old. They had most likely been wrenched from their homes and forced to serve in this rag-tag group of guerilla soldiers. Samuel looked around once more, and suddenly he didn’t see a group of killers with guns trained on him. He saw a bunch of frightened, teenage boys. “You’re afraid,” he observed. “You’re afraid of the fact that you could die in any given moment. I have...

The Call of a Pastor

One day,  seventeen-year-old  Antonio  was near a church with his friends. They had been throwing rocks at the church building for weeks, but this day a bet was made. Whoever could sneak up to the front of the sanctuary and touch one of the girls who were praying would win this bet. Antonio stood in the doorway, waiting for a chance to make his move. Suddenly the pastor pointed straight at him, bidding him to come to the altar, but Antonio was not there to accept Jesus into his heart. He waited until the pastor closed his eyes in prayer before he slowly made his way forward.  But as he drew near, the pastor opened his eyes. He asked Antonio what he was doing there. “I...

Serving the Servants

Advancing Native Missions has given me the opportunity to meet many faithful servants of God from around the world. Ever since I was a little girl meeting missionaries who came to speak at my church, I was impressed by their giving hearts and how they served the people of the world. These missionaries labor tirelessly and give endlessly. But while they serve the nations, who is serving them? It isn't an exaggeration to say that these missionaries give all they have. They would rather go without than to see someone else in need. Many pastors in foreign lands don't even have enough money to buy the clothing they need. Advancing Native Missions has taken on the project of clothing the pastors of...
