Unseen Bondage...

... Women in Cults You see a woman clothed in black from head to foot, with only a slit revealing her sorrowful eyes. Seeing her, you think, “The religious culture this woman lives in obviously oppresses her.” But what about a woman who looks like the mother on The Brady Bunch? She could be your neighbor, a co-worker, your child’s teacher. And she belongs to one of the many cults that now populate our nation. She doesn’t look oppressed. But she is—because her religious culture demeans women and uses them. For example, her religion may teach her that her husband is a god… and she must obey his every whim. Or, she may be taught that it is God’s will that...

What is it like to be a woman in an Islamic country?

She is… She is an outcast in her own country.  She faces death threats and persecution from the government.  She is a missionary whose sacrifice is great.  She has suffered much loss, pain, sadness and rejection, but yet she still serves the Lord.  Sister N. is a woman of determination.  She is not easily discouraged and will not give up.   After failing to become a “good Muslim” by becoming pregnant at the age of 15, Sister N. received 100 lashes and was thrown into prison.  During the 7th month of her pregnancy she began to have complications.  She begged the prison guards to take her to the hospital. ...

India Missions

Beauty for Ashes: Two Weeks in India       It’s 5:30 in the morning and the first sounds we hear are birds chirping outside the window. And yet an even sweeter sound competes with the tranquility of the dawn of another day. It’s the sound of children’s voices lifted in songs praising the one true God, Jesus. What children rise at such an early time to praise, worship and pray? The 70 children of Rehoboth Home, an orphanage begun by Malliga Chandran and her husband.  On July 13th a team of 8 people from ANM came to minister and work with the children, teachers, staff and HIV widows there. I was part of that team.     Every day we are...

By the grace of God, I will continue his work

"By the grace of God, I will continue his work" God hears the prayers of a widow...    Manjula Mathew is truly a mighty woman of God.  Born into an Orthodox Hindu family, her family worshipped many idols.  In 1966, she married a Hindu man and two years later had a daughter.  There was always fighting in her home and she felt like she never had peace.  In 1970, her husband became very ill and required surgery.  His spleen was removed, but in the end he succomed to his illness, leaving his family in shock.  In June that year, Jesus appered to her in a dream and asked her to follow him.  However, she continued to worship idols.  A few years...

Tears Of A Widow

"Everything we do is started with prayer and we give God the glory for all He has done."  Malliga Chandran started the Rehoboth Home for Children as a refuge for orphans in India. Malliga and her husband work tirelessly to offer the children of Rehoboth Home safety, unconditional love, and a family.  Rehoboth Home for children is a place orphans can call home.  Each child is given an opportunity to learn about the love of Jesus Christ.  To hear the children sing of God's love in their broken English is truly remarkable in this community of Hindu worshipers.  Malliga's dream to spread the love of Jesus has grown into more than she could have imagined.  God...

Women Empowered!

Names changed to protect the ministry**   Nearly 40 ladies and some of our staff arrived from all our ministry areas – Jamkhandi, Jagdal, Asangi, Rabkavi, Bellatti, Kittur and Dastikoppa.  There were housewives, widows, single mothers, prostitutes and HIV+ among them. The first session started soon after lunch. I spoke on “You are Special”. This was to boost their self image – to accept themselves as God’s wonderful creation.  One woman testified that she had never accepted herself and suffered from very low self esteem.  God spoke to her heart to love the way He had made her.   This session was followed by beauty care. We had already...

Pray for Hellen

Through Her Eyes...Hellen's Prayer Requests Meet Hellen Malande This letter recently came from a missionaries wife who is a leader in her own right.  Her desire is to equip women for success in ministry and the workforce, so women can be self sustaining.  IN HER OWN WORDS...Dear Autumn,   Kindly accept my apologies for the delay in responding to your mail.  I have been very busy a project for income generation for the family that I hardly remember to check mail or if I do most likely the network is unreliable and poor connection more so on the days when I travel with my husband which takes many hours on really bad roads.   Below is my response:   What...

Rescued Women in India

Many women are held captive in the red light district of Bombay.  Some are youth that were sold into the lifestyle and hopelessly continue thinking there is no way out.  Bombay Teen Challenge is making a difference as they rescue these ladies, one at a time.  There is a great need to furnish the home that has been built to house those rescued.  Perhaps you could help with this need!  Take a look at project # 271....

ANM is pleased to announce a brand new ministry effort.  This ministry is called International Women's Ministries and is under the direction of Autumn Graves.  Autumn says about this new endeavor:  "The mission of International Women’s Ministries is found in Isaiah 54:7, '…with great mercies I will gather you.'  The MISSION of IWM is to be an instrument used by God to gather women globally and encourage them through empowerment, connections and care.  IWM gathers women globally and seeks to reach-out to missionary wives, widows, single mothers and solitary workers to “Help Wipe the Tears of our Sisters,” especially those in difficult...

Ministering to the Ministers

I recently received a report from the Philippines that told of taking a bunch of pastors' wives shopping. These were women who constantly give of themselves and rarely receive anything in return. They were so overjoyed at being given a new dress or pair of shoes that tears came to their eyes as they thanked those who had blessed them with these simple gifts over and over. Advancing Native Missions is taking the same method of encouragement to Africa. Once again, we are going to bless those who give away what little they have. Please pray for these women who pour their hearts into serving alongside their husbands....

India 2009 Trip Report: Bombay Teen Challenge

While we were in India, we visited Bombay Teen Challenge (BTC), a ministry focused on breaking the cycle of human trafficking in Mumbai’s Red Light District. When talking with prostitutes and brothel owners, the staff emphasizes two main points: 1.    Jesus loves you Women can believe this because the ministry is right there in the heart of the Red Light District offering free medical and dental care along with prayer and worship services. The BTC staff members are building relationships with the women. 2.    Jesus has a plan for your life This is more difficult for women to believe. Everything that they had has been ripped from them and many are dying...
